This book focuses primarily on the biggest problems and most important issues faced by all piccolo players around the world: leading and sustaining sounds in piano dynamics, finishing phrases, exercises within the octave, fifth and fourths, a gentle attack on the sound, and - crucial in piccolo playing - intonation.  The Etudes for Piccolo Flute are the exercise section of the Mastering the Piccolo book.  Apart from a few exceptions, the etudes are designed as sight-reading exercises and do not require tedious work to read the notes. I purposely want to focus more attention on the problems of emission, intonation and articulation rather than on time-consuming score reading. However, I always tried to make 3 or 4 bars harder so the etude is challenging and memorable.
